Established In 1923...
In 2003, The Spencer Companies Incorporated marked its 80th year of serving the motoring public. From its home office in Huntsville, Alabama, Spencer distributes and sells gasoline and diesel products and operates convenience stores in seven counties in the North Alabama and Birmingham markets.

A Little Family History...
Guy J Spencer, Jr. took over in 1964 as President and CEO, following the leadership of his father. He was later joined by the third generation to come into the family business. Sarah Spencer Chappell joined the company in 1983 and Guy J Spencer, III (J) in 1991. J oversees the company's cardloc (CFN) operations in addition to overseeing transportation and safety. Sarah has been involved in almost every aspect of the business, but has focused her energies primarily on retail and dealer operations. In 2005, she left to pursue an opportunity in another family business, but returned in 2006 to focus on enhancing our retail operations.

What We Are Doing Today.
In 2001, The Spencer Companies acquired Thrasher Oil Company, another family-owned business in Huntsville . This acquisition essentially doubled the size of The Spencer Companies in addition to giving us the Shell brand. The acquisition provided the company with a much stronger retail presence while enhancing its wholesale and dealer operations. In conjunction with that acquisition, Mike Segrest became the company's president and CEO, bringing over three decades of oil company experience to The Spencer Companies. Gary Tucker has been the chief financial officer since 1999, with over 10 years of oil company experience.

Supporting the Community.

The Spencer Companies is dedicated to help support various organizations in North Alabama. Many employees have volunteered their time and services to bring awareness to the community.
